Computers are an integral part of our lives. People use it to serve so many different purposes ranging from education to communication, information dissemination, leisure, and more. Continuous innovation over the last few years has brought us to the current state of computers today, available in a more portable version – the laptop. This compact version of a desktop computer is especially popular among students and professionals, because it allows you to study and work anywhere.

Not all laptops are the same. Various brands offer them in a variety of sizes, memory capacity, battery life, et c. If you are planning to buy a new laptop for your new job this year, your electrical supplier in the Philippines would like to offer you several tips in choosing the right one:

Identify Its Main Purpose

It’s likely that you are buying a laptop primarily because you need it do accomplish something. Not all laptops are able to offer or handle certain functions – for example, if you will only use it for writing and surfing the net, you’re good to go with almost any laptop as long as it has internet connectivity. You will need a more powerful laptop though if you intend to run programs like Photoshop or Video Editing software. If you need it for gaming, check the specs to see if it meets the requirements of the games you have in mind.

Simple laptops with ordinary configurations will allow you to do basic office tasks such as typing and checking your email. Then, there are laptops with better configuration which you can use to do more complex things such as editing videos and images or playing computer games. Be prepared, because things like this have a huge bearing on a laptop’s price tag.

Consider the Battery Life

With the desktop versions, you will need to take special precautions to protect your computer from shutting down by accident. With laptops, you don’t need to worry so much about power outage because the battery allows them to function without being plugged in.

However, battery life among laptops are not the same. Unless you are planning to mostly leave your laptop at home to serve the same purpose as a desktop computer, you will need to be particular with the battery life of your laptop. After all, what is the point of purchasing a portable computer if its battery life is so short, you can’t even use it without keeping it plugged? Don’t be so enamored with laptops that have slimmer designs because they sometimes use non-removable batteries. This means that you might have a hard time swapping batteries once it becomes defunct. Lastly, always subtract an hour or two from the claimed battery life of a laptop. Those claims are often derived upon light usage of the laptop, with a dimmed screen.

Check the Screen Quality

After buying a laptop, you’ll most likely spend your time sitting in front of it. You’ll spend numerous hours peering at your screen, so make sure that your laptop’s screen is pleasant to the eyes. Touchscreen laptops are now available in the market but their screens are glossy and may be far too reflective. If you’re easily distracted by things like that, it’s best to avoid glossy screens. When it comes to resolution, go with full HD which has a 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution, especially if you want plenty of space. Finally, if you want a wide viewing angle, go with screens that offer in-plane switching (IPS) technology.

Take Note of Processors

Aside from external qualities, you should also check the internal specifications of a laptop before making a purchase. This means taking note of a laptop’s core processor. For most people, dual core will do; however there are computer applications that might need triple or quad-core processors. If you are into games or your job entails video encoding, you should invest in quad-core processors. On the other hand, if you just want to browse the net, then stick with dual core.

When buying a laptop, don’t just check the external qualities like the screen and keyboard. Compared to the exterior, the internal aspect of a laptop is just as – if not more – important. All in all, the best laptop differs for every person because we all have different reasons for buying a portable computer in the first place. Take note of that purpose, as well as the tips above, when buying a laptop.
