What are the benefits of a motion-sensored home?

  1. Increased home security
  2. Energy and cost savings
  3. More convenience

Motion sensors are devices that detect any and all kinds of movement in designated spaces. You can get them from many electrical companies in the Philippines and install them in buildings – whether commercial or residential. There are a wide variety of motion sensors available and they are categorized according to the type of technology they use.

The most basic types are active and passive infrared sensors and active and passive ultrasonic sensors. Aside from these four, there are microwave motion sensors, tomographic motion detectors, gesture detectors, and more. All these are capable of detecting the slightest movement but they are utilized in different ways. Although most commonly integrated into alarm systems, it is not unusual for them to be connected to other things such as lighting systems and camera setups.

Out of everyone, homeowners actually stand to gain the most by installing these motion sensors in their home. Passive infrared (PIR) sensors – the type most commonly installed in residential homes and areas – offer lots of benefits and we’ve listed them all in this article!

 Increased Home Security

Increased Home Security

Burglars, vandals, and other criminals love to start their operations at night when everyone is deep in sleep and lights are all turned off. The encompassing darkness gives them an opportunity to do their deeds incognito and avoid detection or identification in the event that something goes wrong. Sometimes, they may even lurk around and wait for you to retire for the night before invading your home.

You can counter this by installing motion sensors around your home and connecting them to your security system (if you have one) or lighting system. The moment an intruder steps foot in a motion-sensored home, alarms will blare and lights will turn on. These things should scare them off enough that they won’t ever dare to come back again.

Energy and Cost Savings

People often turn all outdoor lights and leave some interior ones on to scare off and trick criminals. Even when they’re away from home, they tend to do this in hopes that these people would keep out. This method is actually quite effective but it comes at such a high cost. Energy consumption is increased and so is their energy bill.

On top of this, the lifespan of their light bulbs are cut short and replacements are needed more often which means more expenses. In order to dodge all these unnecessary expenses, you can just install motion sensors in your home. Again, you can connect them to an alarm or lighting system and you come on top either way because they can alert you whenever some unusual movement happens in your home.

There is, however, additional benefits if you connect it to your home’s lighting system. Remember those times when you forgot to turn off the lights and left them running for hours? Well, you can say goodbye to those moments because the lights automatically turn on and off as you enter and leave.

 More Convenience

More Convenience

Convenience may be the smallest benefit that a motion sensor can offer but it can make a world of difference especially if your sensors are part of your lighting system. You won’t ever need to look for switches again and you won’t have to deal with the struggle of turning them on while your hands are full of groceries and other items. Additionally, you won’t have to remind yourself to turn them off as you leave the room because, as mentioned earlier, they do so automatically.

These can all be possible by installing the devices at strategic places in your home. Near the front door is a great example of this as the lights are going to be prompted to turn on as soon as you walk by. You can also install it by your garage door so that it automatically opens and/or closes as you arrive. Hallways are also ideal locations because then they will illuminate the way and allow you to avoid slip and fall accidents and/or deter criminals.

It may not seem like much but you’ll realize just how useful it is once you experience it for yourself. You also have to remember that these sensors can be installed anywhere in your home. If you choose to, you can put one in every room and have all your home lights automated.

Key Takeaway

A motion-sensored home is one that is secure, cost-efficient, and convenient. The benefits may be few but they are really all you need and want from this device. At this point, you may be waiting for us to reveal the disadvantages of doing this, but there actually aren’t any. Any disadvantage that motion sensors came with the years prior have all been removed thanks to the advancement of technology. Now, they only come with these benefits and nothing else.

So if and when you’re ready to install motion sensors in and around your home, make sure to consult an electrical company in the Philippines like Meiji Electric. They sell a wide array of worthwhile motion sensors that are going to fit perfectly in your home. Aside from that, they’d also be able to guide you through the process and install the devices for you. While you can resort to DIY installations, nothing beats the work that is done by experts. These people have years of experience and know where your motion sensors should go in order to provide optimal performance!

Holiday Inn Express Newport City is a part of Resorts World Manila, the Philippines’ first integrated resort, with world-class thrills ranging from dining, shopping, gaming, cinemas, and live entertainment. Resorts World is well-known when it comes to their high-class hotels, entertainment and gaming. They have four lodging brands in the country- the luxury all-suite Maxims Hotel, five-star Marriott Hotel Manila, Holiday Inn Express and Belmont Hotel Manila. Resorts World is a joint venture with Megaworld; the largest residential developer in the country.

Holiday Inn Express recently purchased MGF-250 for all their rooms from Meiji Electric; the leading supplier of the best Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter in the Philippines. Their luxury all-suite Maxims Hotel and five-star Marriott Hotel Manila have also purchased GFCI: MGF-250. Resorts World Manila trusts only Meiji Electric in protecting their clients, guests and employees in line with electrical safety.

The best-selling GFCI MGF-250 comes with a New SELF-TEST Feature.

So, what is a Self-Test GFCI Receptacle?

It is a receptacle that regularly tests the ground fault circuit interrupter function by itself, and then cuts off the power to that receptacle when the ground fault circuit interrupter function fails. The UL (Underwriters Laboratories) made it a requirement that all suppliers of GFCI should make them self-testing, effective  June 2015 in order for them to be UL listed, the revision requires periodic automatic monitoring/self-testing of the GFCI’s ability to respond to a ground fault.  According to the Standard, if the device detects a problem during auto-testing, the GFCI must either deny power to the outlet or provide a visual and/or audible indication. This is a pretty cool idea because most people don’t test their regular GFCIs often, or not at all. When a regular GFCI receptacle isn’t tested by the consumer for the ground fault circuit interrupter function, it may not be doing its job correctly, and could cause electrical shock. In short, with this Self-Test feature you don’t need to test your GFCI every month.

MGF250

A combination of an International and a Universal Outlet

The MGF250 has a combination of an International and a Universal Outlet unlike other traditional GFCI’s, which are usually  Duplex Parallel Flat Pin convenience outlets ( C.O.’s) with Ground. The MGF250 works on any plug without any need for bulky adaptors. The MGF250 is considered one of the best in the market since it is classified as Class A in accordance with UL943. This is because all four types of Meiji Electric’s GFCI’s have a maximum 6mA sensitivity rating, unlike other GFCIs being sold in the markets which only have 15mA rating or even higher, making those other brands very dangerous for human lives  when used inappropriately.

Important in both homes and business establishments

GFCI’s are very important in both homes and business establishments, as it monitors an electrical circuit and detects even the slightest flow of electricity to a grounded item. A GFCI immediately shuts off the flow of electricity, thus protecting people from electrocution. It is particularly essential to install in areas where people could come in contact with exposed or faulty grounded items inside bathrooms and kitchens.

Thank you, Megaworld, Resorts World Manila and Holiday Inn Express for purchasing the MGF-250 with the new Self-Test feature from Meiji Electric; the most trusted supplier when it comes to providing innovative electrical items that protect your homes and business establishments! The Meiji MHWP series weatherproof enclosure is one of the unique best selling items here at Meiji Electric. Due to this, we decided to release a new and improved version that can accommodate your circuit breakers up to 26 poles. The Meiji MHMWP series weatherproof enclosure IP65 MHWP 03, MHWP 05, MHWP 09, MHWP 13 and MHWP 26 enclosures are designed to give protection to your breakers against various weather elements without deterioration.

Today, there are multiple types of enclosures which are made of various materials and with multiple ratings, so it’s hard to know which outdoor enclosure will be more ideal, less expensive and will be able to stand the test of time. Here are the steps that you should consider when choosing a weatherproof enclosure.

STEP 1: KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS

Where will your sensitive electrical equipment be located?

  • Outdoors?
  • Close to salt water or in a hot, dusty area?
  • In the shade or in full sunlight?
  • On a pole or mounted to a wall?

Airborne debris, rain and other environmental elements can damage your improperly installed electrical enclosure. For example, salt spray is highly corrosive and can cause metallic enclosures even made of stainless steel to rust. So it would be better to purchase an outdoor weatherproof enclosure that is made of polycarbonate thermoplastic material.

Meiji IP65 Weatherproof enclosure MHWP09

Meiji IP65 Weatherproof enclosure MHWP09

The Meiji MHWP series weatherproof enclosure uses materials that are resistant to ultraviolet radiation. These materials were all tested according to ISO 4892-2, Method A Cycle 1 with a total test period of 500 hours based on 5170F-UV-A specification. In other words, the Meiji MHWP series weatherproof enclosures are designed to withstand extreme sunlight heat and other similar conditions. Therefore, these enclosures will never get brittle or damaged due to outdoor sunlight situations.

STEP 2: VERIFY THE IP RATING OF THE ENCLOSURE FOR YOUR SAFETY

If your enclosure is to be located in an area that is regularly rainy, or has damp weather conditions then IP65 would suit you.

IP rating is a standard that is used to define the levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies such as dirt and water. The rating consists of the letters IP followed by 2 digits, the digit stands for the level of protection that the enclosure provides against solid bodies, the second digit describes the degree of protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against water.

As you can see from the chart above, the Meiji MHWP series weatherproof enclosures which are rated at IP65, can protect your circuit breakers from total dust ingress and low pressure water jets from any direction. And due to its polycarbonate thermoplastic material,  the Meiji MHWP series weatherproof enclosures will never rust or corrode in any rainy or damp outdoor situation.

STEP 3: IS IT DURABLE AND BUDGET FRIENDLY?

There are enclosures available for almost every price point. Pricing depends on materials and customization like UL Standard NEMA 3R for outdoors or NEMA 4X which is a stainless enclosure that is quite expensive. The Meiji MHWP series weatherproof enclosure features a modern-day design that has a smoky cover which allows you to view the circuit breakers inside. It is made of a special polycarbonate thermoplastic material to protect your circuit breakers from sun, rain, dirt, oil and spraying water. Unlike the usual metal NEMA 3R enclosures, which tend to rust and discolor over a period of time, the Meiji MHWP series weatherproof enclosures will not deteriorate even when exposed to heavy rain and sunlight. Yet compared to a NEMA 3R enclosure, the price is practically the same. It is also very affordable compared to  NEMA 4X stainless enclosures. The Meiji MHWP series weatherproof enclosures cost less than one half compared to NEMA 4X enclosures. It comes in different models MHWP 03, MHWP 05, MHWP 13 and MHWP 13 and MWHP 26 which can house 3,5,9,13 and up to 26 poles of miniature circuit breakers, ranging from 1 ampere to 125 ampere frame.

Meiji Electric hopes that your holiday season was filled with the warm company of friends and family. The holiday season is over, which means that it is time to put away your Christmas decorations. Here are some reminders to help keep safely storing your decors a holiday tradition in your home and in the future:

Meiji Fiber Optic Trees

Christmas tree

Let’s start with the highlight of the Christmas Season, the Christmas tree. You want to make sure that it is stored well, so it will continue to look great year after year. The box that the tree came in can be used to repackage it, but it can be a challenge to fit the tree back in after it’s been fluffed. Good thing the Meiji Fiber Optic Tree is so compact and easy to disassemble. You just have to fold its leaves and you are done in less than 10 minutes!

Holiday decorations are meant for temporary use

Leaving your decorations up for extended periods leaves wires unnecessarily exposed to the elements, which can decrease the product’s shelf life and increase the risk of electrical hazards. Store electrical decorations in a dry area that is not accessible by children or pets.

Inspect the wiring

As you take down holiday lights, inspect the wiring and discard any that have cracked or appear to have damaged wire insulation. Always unplug decorations by using the plug or gripping area.  Pulling on the cord could damage the wire and present a shock or fire hazard.

Properly label or store indoor decorations

Make sure to properly label or store indoor decorations separate from those intended for outdoor use. Put your old shoe boxes to good use; wrap your Christmas balls then store them inside the old shoe box.

Meiji Christmas Village

Storing your Meiji Christmas Village involves ensuring that it will look as good next Christmas as it did the year before. Most Christmas villages include small, breakable buildings so storing your village properly is really important. Keep the box in which your Christmas village originally came from; this comes with Styrofoam to ensure that the small ornaments in the village do not get damaged.  For older village pieces that are missing their original boxes, you can wrap each Christmas village in bubble wrap before putting it in a storage box. While it might be tempting to put two pieces together, those pieces can bump against one another and cause scratching, discoloration and breakage.

Christmas lights should be kept away from places with extreme temperatures and humidity

These factors can harm the filament of the bulbs. Also guard against mice because they can chew on the wires and ruin the strand of Christmas lights. Tangled wires are difficult to unwind and prone to bulb breakage. Christmas lights made with incandescent bulbs are normally switched on for long consecutive hours which can cause overheating. For safety reasons, it is advisable to have it checked by an electrician before using it again. Neatly wrap Christmas lights help make the decorating process faster and easier to re-use for the next Holiday Season.

Remember that you invested time and money in buying your special Christmas ornaments each year. These decors not only add cheerfulness to the Christmas Season, some also have high sentimental value so they need to be properly kept and maintained.

Do you know that unlike other GFCI’s, the whole family of Meiji Electric’s GFCI’s MGU252, MGF250, GF250 and LG20 are classified as Class A in accordance with UL943 as they are rated at 6mA. sensitivity rating? In other words, Meiji GFCI’s can detect as little as .006 Ampere of ground fault.  UL Standard indicates the `let go factor’ of women and children should not be more than 6mA sensitivity rating because anything above this range is where `freezing currents’ start and it may not be possible to `let go.’ Prevent these accidents and install the Meiji GFCI’s in your bathroom, garage, and other wet prone areas now.

Our newest addition is the MGU252, the only square GFCI with a combination of 1 international outlet and 2 USB outlets. It is designed for convenience of use with all USB-dependent gadgets and devices while protecting you in wet prone areas.

MGU-252 with UB-252

Here are some advantages of installing a Meiji MGU-252 GFCI:

  • It works on any type of plugs, no need for bulky adaptors.
  • It has 2 USB ports, 5V 2A for charging smart phones, tablets, laptops, etc.
  • It has a safety Test button, so you can check if the Ground Fault Detection feature is functioning properly.
  • It will work even without a grounding system.
  • It is accurate, reliable and user-friendly with an innovative and modern design.
  • It comes with a free Utility Box UB252 which is specially designed for the MGU252.

Electrical Code

The Electrical Code requires installing a GFCI  for all wet areas, this is necessary to avoid ground fault which happens when electricity passes through our wet body before it reaches the ground.  The GFCI is different from conventional receptacles, because in the event of a ground fault, it automatically trips, and stops the flow of electricity to your body, thus preventing serious injury.

Choose from our various types of GFCI’s to have that maximum electrical safety in your home and establishments! Aside from the MGU252, we also offer 3 other GFCI’s namely:

MGF250The MGF250– The only GFCI with a combination of 1 international outlet and 1 universal outlet. It is also classified as Class A GFCI rated at 16A, 250V with the same basic features as MGU252.

LG20,GF250WS

The other Class A GFCI’s are GF250 (220V) and LG20 (110V) – These have duplex parallel convenience outlets with ground both of which are also UL and CSA certified. Their load capacities are 20A which can plug in 2 devices at the same time.

During New Year, a lot of us usually make a list of resolutions on self-improvement. Some of the most common goals in New Year’s resolutions are to lose weight, make more money and to quit smoking. For a change, why not include improving electrical safety in our homes as a part of the list?

Meiji Electric encourages you to practice electrical safety measures that can help keep you and your family safe. The start of a new year is the perfect time for homeowners to start electrical safety. Some common causes of electrical fires are caused by faulty electrical outlets, old wiring, and problems with cords, plugs and switches. It is best that we are equipped with the proper knowledge to avoid any future losses that we can actually avoid.

Here are 6 items that can improve your Electrical System at home:

CAUGHT

Your home is your safe zone and you feel the safest within the vicinity of your own sanctuary. Whether at home or away from it, you expect your possessions to remain safe.  Truth is, you can never be completely safe from falling victim to burglary and theft but there are ways to make it more difficult for home invaders to do what they want to do. Invest on home security like CCTV cameras or motion sensors here in the Philippines. Simple devices like these will definitely help you. Read on to know more about the different and simple ways to protect your homes from those pesky thieves.

Lock It Up

Install strong locks and always check your windows and doors before going to be bed. This is the oldest trick in the book but still the most effective way to keep them out. A persistent crook can simply kick in your door, break the lock and run while grabbing as many valuables they can find. Invest on deadbolts instead of factory locks; chain locks are a great preventive method for this type of burglary.  No matter what you think about your neighborhood,  you can’t assume you’re safe all the time so never forget to lock your doors. By leaving your home unlocked, you’re basically inviting burglars and invaders into your home. This simple routine could easily deter an offender and save you from a ton of loss and possible physical harm.

Keep the lights on!

Go take your security to another level by investing on upgrades such as motion lights, which turn on automatically when someone walks by. Just put yourself in a burglar’s position and think, if you were about to rob a home would you prefer the one brightly lit up or the one that’s dark, dim?

Secure with an Alarm

Security alarms are a good investment to keep those thieves off of your property. A security alarm with a built-in siren will definitely scare away any being. It can also alert you when someone has entered your home, buying you enough time to call the police and arm yourself with a baseball bat.

Don’t Post Everything on Social Media

Remember you’re not the only one online these days— even criminals are using social networking sites to look for their next target! On that note, never announce when you’re leaving home or how long it will be vacant because  you just might be posting an open invitation to unwanted guests into your defenseless home. . Yes, you can say that your Facebook ‘friends’ are people that you trust with the said information but again, you can never be too sure. Be cautious of what you post online especially information that might cause damage to you. Keep your profile set on private and limit the private information you post online.

There you have it, four simple ways you can effectively protect your homes and yourself. Do what you can now and make it a goal to get the rest done as soon as possible. Remember, always stay alert!
