For a long time now, electricity has become such a huge necessity. There is little to no argument that electricity is an essential part of most homes. In fact, some household fixtures require constant supply of electricity, such as the refrigerator. As such, it is imperative for us to understand the importance of having a secure electrical system. There are hundreds of websites that direct you to a panel board supplier, but only a handful will tell you how to use it and why it’s necessary for you to know.

What Is A Panel Board

A panel board is an element of an electricity supply system. The panel board is responsible for distributing enough electricity to your home’s circuits. It is also responsible for protecting your home’s internal circuitry if in case a fuse blows and your circuit trips. The panel board is mounted against the wall in a small cabinet or box and is only accessible from the front; it is made up of fuse links, bus bars, and switches. Fault protective equipment, or bypass equipment are also in place for added security.

A panel board is commonly known to us as the circuit breaker panel, distribution board, or the fusebox. All these names point to the electrical box that controls the power running through your whole household. Every current of electricity supplied by the utility provider runs through this little box. It is imperative for you to know that this box can save you and your family’s lives. We as individuals need to provide a safe and secure environment for our families in order for us to have a safe and secure home.

Panel Board for Your Home

Safety and security directs us to reconsider improving our home panel boards from time to time. In tropical countries like the Philippines, households are constructed with consideration to the temperamental typhoon season. It is absolutely imperative for you to be knowledgeable in your home panel board, just in case of natural calamities and such. Houses that were constructed in the early 70s have outdated and probably lost panel board instruction manuals – it’s up to you to find ways to figure out how the old-time circuit breaker works, or consider updating your panel board. In addition to having a redone panel board that provides additional security to your home, your new panel board will come with an instruction manual that can help you learn how to use it.

 Key Takeaway

Your family’s safety and comfort always comes first! Having good knowledge of your household’s electricity supply system is definitely an added security. A circuit breaker in your home is not meant to be hidden at the back of the utility closet. It is an important household fixture that needs to be understood by members of your family. Updating your circuit breaker with the help of a great panel board supplier will not only provide for better security for your home, it will also give you additional knowledge on safety precautions in case of emergency.

fix circuit breaker errors meiji

The electric circuit breaker is an important part of each home’s electrical wiring system. If there are any signs of trouble, buying another one from our trusted circuit breaker supplier is the obvious option – it’s absolutely convenient and hassle-free. However if something can be fixed, why quickly replace it?

Before jumping the gun and replacing your electric circuit breaker, it would be a great idea to learn how to troubleshoot. First of all, you need to identify the root of the problem then you find a way to solve it.

Sometimes the reason for circuit breakers problems is miswiring of the electrical system. When
this happens, any electrical device will not turn off properly and will continue running even after it was shut off. Electrical wiring mistakes like this is usually simple to fix; however, IF you don’t solve miswiring immediately, you can get electrical shocks. Although the shock is not fatal, wiring inaccuracy can cause harm to individuals operating electrical appliances in the home. Miswiring can also cause appliances, switches and other electrical appliances to not operate properly or to not work at all.

When rewiring or running new electrical wire in your home, make sure that you immediately call on your trusty technician or electrician because major problems like these requires the help of a professional. If you want to do it by yourself, be sure that you are well-knowledgeable about this particular wiring case. Afterwards, purchase your electrical equipment that will be used for a remodelling project. All you need is the right equipment or tool and then you can fix it yourself from then on.

Circuit Overload

If too many devices are powered in one location, the single circuit will be overloaded and will relive the load by “tripping”, or switching off. This “trip” is necessary to protect circuits’ form becoming overloaded and this type of mechanism is designed to protect the electrical system in your home. In order to not experience this to ever happen, here are a few simple things you need to remember:

  1. Do not plug a lot of equipment into one outlet.
  2. Make sure there aren’t any loose connections in your outlets.
  3. Turn off and unplug devices that aren’t used

Pay attention to details and practice safe electrical procedures. If you can’t prevent this to happen and the inevitable did occur, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Locate the breaker box
  2. Locate the circuit breaker switch definitely flipped off
  3. Push the switch to a full “off” position then turn it completely “on” again.
  4. Once you hear the click, you have restored power to the specific circuit which means your job is done

Consult with a professional electrician if something arises.

There are definitely plenty other errors but these two are by far the most common. As long as you practice safe electrical procedures, you won’t need to worry on creating any mishap whatsoever. If anything out of the ordinary or something beyond your capacity occurs, simply call up your friendly technician!

meiji motion sensor alarm

One of the best ways to protect your house from intruders is by installing a motion sensor in the Philippines. There are plenty of choices in the market, and the most reliable ones are very efficient in keeping possible burglars from forcefully entering your house. But you have to be really careful with your choices. You can’t just walk into a store and buy a motion sensor without considering its capabilities!

If you are practically clueless when it comes to sensors, much less which one would best suit your needs, you might have a hard time. To help you, here is a list of factors that you have to consider before purchasing a motion sensor.

The Type

There are different kinds of motion sensors in the market right now. Before purchasing one, you have to figure out which type of motion sensor would fit your needs best. Generally, there are two types of motion sensors: area motion sensors and local motion sensors.

Area motion sensors are sensors that protect a certain area. Sensors that fall under this category detect changes in a local environment such as movement, vibration, or heat. On the other hand, a local motion sensor’s protection doesn’t cover a whole area. Instead of detecting changes in an environment, it protects specific smaller areas through laser beams, contact sensors, and infrared. When choosing a motion sensor, you have to identify if you want to protect a whole area or if there are certain specific parts of the house you need to guard.

The Features

Different motion sensors have different features. Usually, when change is detected in a protected area, either of the three (or a combination of the three) happens: an alarm, light, or video camera is triggered. Alarms can be triggered a number of ways. Sometimes, you are notified of the possible break-in. There are also motion sensors that – in addition to notifying you of the possible break in – will directly signal an alarm to your security company or the authorities as well.

There are also motion sensors that come with lights. This feature can be used to discourage a possible intruder from entering a protected area. You can use floodlights, for instance, or maybe laser beams in doors and entryways. Another brilliant feature that you should look for in your motion sensor is video surveillance. There are motion sensors in the market that trigger a video recording upon an intruder’s entry. This feature can help you in determining the culprit and might be used for insurance and prosecution purposes.

The Mounting Position

Motion sensors are mounted in different ways. Some sensors are mounted on the wall, others are mounted beside entry points such as doors and windows. There are also motion sensors that can be mounted above switches. This kind of motion sensor lets you control the brightness of the room, in addition to providing home security.

Some motion sensors can be mounted in inconspicuous areas, like the ceiling for instance. This kind of sensor is perfect for monitoring a whole room as opposed to one small area only. Also, sensors like this are much easier to miss since sensors are typically mounted on walls.

Motion sensors are very effective in detecting possible break-ins not only in private properties but in public places as well. When purchasing one, remember to take into consideration the factors stated above. This will help you choose which motion detector will suit your needs best.

Out of all the wiring devices in the Philippines, extension cords are probably one of the most flexible, and not just because they are usually quite long. Extension cords are considered to be flexible because unlike other wiring devices, you can take them anywhere! You can use them in any area of your house, and are also useful outside of your home.

Extension cords are very helpful but they too have limits. Without proper maintenance, you can damage your extension cords and, worse, put your life at risk. In order to avoid falling victim to electrical hazards, take care of your extension cords by following the safety tips below.

No Overloading

There are a lot of dos and don’ts when it comes to extension cords. One of the major don’ts is overloading, meaning plugging in too many devices at the same time. One could argue that this is exactly what it’s made for, but to be on the safe side avoid overloading your extension cord anyway. If you are not careful, overloading can lead to electrical fires.

Use it For Temporary Wiring

Rearranging appliances and furniture can be tricky, especially when you consider the wiring. Let’s say for example that a party will be held at your house and you want to place a certain appliance on a specific area, but since its cord is too short, you end up using an extension cord. This is fine if the arrangement is temporary.

However, extension cords are not recommended for permanent wiring arrangements. If one of your appliances has a short plug, you should install sockets instead of using extension cords.

Make Sure It’s Safe

There are plenty of extension cords in the market but be careful when shopping for one. Before making a purchase, make sure that the extension cord you choose is rated for the appliances that you plan to plug on it. You also need to ensure that your new cord is marked for indoor and outdoor (some extension cords are not safe to use outdoors). An unsafe extension cord might be cheaper, but it increases the risk of electrical threats – when you think about it, it’s not really worth it.

Beware of Damaged Cords

Improper use of extension cords can cause damage. Through time, you might notice that the wire of your cord has become frayed, exposing the strands inside. This can be dangerous because contact to the exposed wiring underneath the sheath insulation can cause electric shocks and burns. To avoid this, make sure not to run your cords through doorways and avoid using staples or nails to attach the cord to any surface. Aside from frayed wires, you also have to watch out for other damages like overheating and short circuit.

Don’t Run Cords Under Carpets

This is pretty basic although plenty of people still refuse to follow this: do not run extension cords under carpets or cover them with rugs. Why? When current passes through your cord, electrical resistance causes two things: voltage drop and heating of the wire. If you cover your extension cord with rug or carpet, it might trap the heat and result to overheating. In turn, overheating will not only damage your cord, it can also lead to electrical fire!

Like any wiring device, it’s important to take care of your extension cords. Follow the safety tips above to make sure that your extension cords are in good condition at all times. This will not only prevent you from buying new cords often, it will also keep you and your appliances safe from electrical problems.

The refrigerator is one of the most important appliances at home. It is the primary reason why your Sunday dinner can still be edible come Monday or even Tuesday. It prevents majority of ingredients from spoiling. Without it, your methods of cooking and food storage will be entirely different. This is why it’s important to take care of your fridge and ensure that it is always in good condition.

Ask your electrical supplier in the Philippines for maintenance tips for your particular refrigerator brand and model. In addition, here are some general guidelines.

Check Your Door Seals

It’s basic knowledge that you should never leave your refrigerator door open. It wastes energy as it makes your fridge work harder than it has to. Sometimes though keeping the refrigerator doors closed is not enough. There are cases wherein the door seals become loose, allowing cool air to ooze out of the fridge.

If you notice that your fridge’s door seals are loose, check if there are any food remains stuck on them. Sometimes, this is what’s causing the problem. If there are residues on the seals, clean them using a toothbrush and a mixture of water and baking soda. Afterwards, if you want to see if your door seals are still loose, try sticking a twenty-peso bill in the fridge. Put it in such a way that one of its half is stuck inside the cold storage and the other half is sticking out of the appliance. If the bill slips out easily, then it’s time to ask a professional for help. Just a tip: if you want to avoid loose door seals, make it a point to clean them twice a year.

Clean Your Condenser Coils

A loose door seal is not the only thing you should watch out for when it comes to your refrigerator. You also have to make sure that your condenser coils are always clean. These coils – found at the back of the fridge – cool and condense refrigerant, which releases heat. When it is clogged with dirt, the compressor is stressed and again, energy is wasted.

This is why you have to clean your refrigerator’s condenser coils every three months. Use a vacuum to clean the coils and the fan. You can also buy a coil brush that you can use to clean hard-to-reach places of the back and side coils. Remember that if you have a pet at home, you have to clean your condenser coils monthly instead of every three months.

Monitor the Interior Temperature

The temperature inside your refrigerator should be between 37 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature inside the freezer has to be at 0 degrees. Unfortunately, warm air that gets inside the refrigerator causes the temperature to rise. To avoid this, allow your leftover food to cool down to room temperature before putting it inside the fridge. Cool foods and drinks inside the fridge can also help absorb the warm air that seeps in when you open the door. Stocking your refrigerator with plenty of foods can help maintain the cool temperature inside it. If you love to eat out, remember to put jugs of water or juice inside the fridge.

If a catastrophe happened and power goes out, you don’t necessarily have to clear out your refrigerator. If you refrain from opening your fridge when there’s no power, the food inside it will be safe for at least 4 more hours. On the other hand, a full freezer will maintain its temperature for at least 48 hours, while a half-full can maintain its temperature for 24 hours.

Take care of your refrigerator to avoid wasting energy and money. Follow the tips above to ensure that your fridge lasts as long as it should.

Air pollution and global warming have been long-standing problems in the history of mankind. Sadly, it is our very actions and inventions that have caused and continue to to contribute to the destruction of the environment. Since we continually disregard the risks that our practices pose against Mother Nature, we exacerbate the problem at hand. It’s a good thing that more and more concerned individuals are not only participating in environmental conservation efforts, but also creating environment-friendly innovations. Not everyone is an inventor, but we all can do our part; believe it or not, minimizing your energy consumption at home is already a great deal of help.

Minimizing energy consumption has a lot of advantages. Not only will you help reduce the negative impact on the environment, it will also reduce your electric bill. In addition to using AVR in the Philippines, you can minimize energy consumption by doing the following:

Unplug Appliances Not in Use

Image from Brilliency.com

Image from Brilliency.com

We all know that turning an appliance off when it is not in use is important. From the lights to the air conditioner, the television, and computers – make a habit of turning off devices that are not in use. Don’t just stop there; remember to unplug said devices. Some appliances have a standby mode which means that even when they are switched off, it is still consuming energy. Unplugging an unused gadget even when it is not on ensures that it absolutely cannot use up energy. You might not think that this is a big deal but when you check your electric bill after a month of religiously switching off appliances that are not in use, you’ll see the difference.

Plant Shade Trees

Image from Treehugger.com

Image from Treehugger.com

Is it too hot inside your house? Beat the heat without turning on the air conditioner 24/7 by planting shade trees. If it is too hot inside your home, ditch it and hang out in your backyard or garden instead. This way, you can cool off without spending a cent and possibly even protect your gadgets from overheating! Here’s another tip: if your backyard or front yard is not big enough to fit a tree, then try painting your house a light color. Dark colors will make it feel hotter inside your home. On the other hand, if you live somewhere cold like Baguio, then using dark colors in your house can be beneficial so you won’t need to use a heater as much.

Use Power Strips

Image from Kopi Incorporation Limited

Image from Kopi Incorporation Limited

Power strips allow you to plug several devices and turn them on or off all at once. Using this helps you organize the wiring better since they are all plugged at the same place. This also means that instead of unplugging your appliances one by one, you just have to unplug your power strip. Choose a power strip with a ‘hot socket’. This will allow you to switch on one device while all the other gadgets are turned off.

Choose Energy-Efficient Appliances

Image from EarthTimes.org

Image from EarthTimes.org

There are plenty of appliances that are now energy-efficient. If you have been using the same computer for years, think about choosing a laptop or desktop with energy saving features. Refrain from using screensavers because they do not save energy at all. Instead of using screensavers, just set your computer or laptop to go to sleep or turn it off when not in use. Buying an energy-efficient device is useless if you don’t use it so make sure to put those features to good use in order to make an impact on your electric bill – and the environment.

Take these simple steps to minimize energy consumption at your own home. Through this, you get to help save the environment and spend less on your electric bill!

smoke detector motion sensor

Most of the time, when someone utters the words home security, people immediately think of motion sensors available in Philippines. Although motion sensors contribute largely to home safety, it’s not the only source of security that you can avail. The truth is aside from burglars, there are several other things that can harm us – like fire and electrical accidents. This means that when it comes to home security, you should be able to protect you and your belongings from different hazards.

Thankfully, there are several alarm sensors that will alert you of a possible danger at home. Check some of them below:

Contact Sensors

Contact sensors are used to notify you when someone tries to enter your house through a window or through the door. Also called magnetic sensors, this is one of the most common types of alarm sensors. It has two parts; the first one contains a magnet and the second part contains a switch. This switch will be turned on when it is placed near the magnet. You have to put one part in the frame of the window or door and the other one, on the window or door, itself. The two parts are positioned right next to each other.

How does it work? If an intruder slides the window or opens the door, the two parts will be separated. Since they are no longer located together, the switch is turned off and, because the circuit was broken, the control panel will sound the alarm. It works for both normal and forced entries. This means whether the intruder uses a key or forces his way inside, you will still be notified.

Glass Break Detectors

When you buy contact sensors, make sure to purchase glass break detectors as well because they complement each other very well. Depending on the alarm sensor that you buy, it can either detect the sound or vibrations of a breaking glass. You can use this individually on a window where you cannot use contact sensors. If you want to feel more secured, you can also use it along with contact sensors. Just make sure to install it on the wall opposite or next to the glass window.

Smoke Detector

Aside from intruders, you also have to protect your home from other dangers such as fire. There are different ways to protect your house from threats such as this. One way is by purchasing and installing smoke alarms. This security device can help detect smoke and give you plenty of time to extinguish the source or vacate the vicinity.

Smoke alarms are mostly powered by batteries. Don’t worry because it lasts long and will alert you once the battery is running out. Although, of course, it’s still better to check them regularly to know that they are working properly at all times.

Flood Sensors

Did you ever went to bed one night and woke up to a flooded house? Don’t let this happen to you by installing flood sensors ahead of a storm. This way, you can sleep well knowing that if a flooding happens, you will be notified and you can evacuate before it turns dangerous. Flood sensors are usually installed on the floors where it can detect the existence of liquids. If ever this was caused by damage to your water pipes, then you can contact someone to repair it before it gets worse.

Home security is not just exclusive to motion sensors and possible break ins. There are several alarm sensors available to ensure that you will always be safe in your home. Check the list above are review your options.
