Updated: October 5, 2017

Meiji Electric hopes that your holiday season was filled with the warm company of friends and family. The holiday season is over, which means that it is time to put away your Christmas decorations. Here are some reminders to help keep safely storing your decors a holiday tradition in your home and in the future:

Meiji Fiber Optic Trees

Christmas tree

Let’s start with the highlight of the Christmas Season, the Christmas tree. You want to make sure that it is stored well, so it will continue to look great year after year. The box that the tree came in can be used to repackage it, but it can be a challenge to fit the tree back in after it’s been fluffed. Good thing the Meiji Fiber Optic Tree is so compact and easy to disassemble. You just have to fold its leaves and you are done in less than 10 minutes!

Holiday decorations are meant for temporary use

Leaving your decorations up for extended periods leaves wires unnecessarily exposed to the elements, which can decrease the product’s shelf life and increase the risk of electrical hazards. Store electrical decorations in a dry area that is not accessible by children or pets.

Inspect the wiring

As you take down holiday lights, inspect the wiring and discard any that have cracked or appear to have damaged wire insulation. Always unplug decorations by using the plug or gripping area.  Pulling on the cord could damage the wire and present a shock or fire hazard.

Properly label or store indoor decorations

Make sure to properly label or store indoor decorations separate from those intended for outdoor use. Put your old shoe boxes to good use; wrap your Christmas balls then store them inside the old shoe box.

Meiji Christmas Village

Storing your Meiji Christmas Village involves ensuring that it will look as good next Christmas as it did the year before. Most Christmas villages include small, breakable buildings so storing your village properly is really important. Keep the box in which your Christmas village originally came from; this comes with Styrofoam to ensure that the small ornaments in the village do not get damaged.  For older village pieces that are missing their original boxes, you can wrap each Christmas village in bubble wrap before putting it in a storage box. While it might be tempting to put two pieces together, those pieces can bump against one another and cause scratching, discoloration and breakage.

Christmas lights should be kept away from places with extreme temperatures and humidity

These factors can harm the filament of the bulbs. Also guard against mice because they can chew on the wires and ruin the strand of Christmas lights. Tangled wires are difficult to unwind and prone to bulb breakage. Christmas lights made with incandescent bulbs are normally switched on for long consecutive hours which can cause overheating. For safety reasons, it is advisable to have it checked by an electrician before using it again. Neatly wrap Christmas lights help make the decorating process faster and easier to re-use for the next Holiday Season.

Remember that you invested time and money in buying your special Christmas ornaments each year. These decors not only add cheerfulness to the Christmas Season, some also have high sentimental value so they need to be properly kept and maintained.

Christmas is just around the corner and I’m sure that by now, you have already adorned your houses with Christmas trees, garlands and colourful parols. It is the most festive time of year and having a safe and secure home will keep the holidays brighter for you and your family. Before you get busy in buying your Christmas gifts and other preparations, please take a while to review our holiday electrical safety reminders to avoid any potential danger.

#1: Determine the number of available outlets

When decorating, determine first the number of available outlets and its location. Be sure that your installed electrical outlet can accommodate the total load of your Christmas decors. The most common problem when hanging Christmas lights is the unavailability of an electric outlet. If your outlet is far from your Christmas lights/ decors, use the Meiji 20 Series Extension sets (WRP 2104/2027) that are made up of polycarbonate ABS plastic material and ranges from 3-5 Metered wires. It also has 3 outlets rated from 1200 to 2500 Watts and your choice of white, black and even green colours.

You can also try our Meiji 13 Series Extension Sets (MES-1303 to 1306). This series consists of 3 to 6 international outlets with individual switches, shutters for child protection and fuses for each outlet. It also contains a circuit breaker to better protect your higher rated appliances. It is made up of fire-retardant plastic in grey colour, rated at a total of 2,500 Watts.

# 2: Turn off all indoor and outdoor electrical decorations before going to sleep or leaving the house.

# 3: Do not use electrical ornaments or light strings on artificial trees with metallic leaves or branches.

Or better yet, update your tree to the Fiber Optic Christmas TreesMeiji Fiber Optic Tree with programmable energy saving LEDs. This year, we have four new designs to choose from. The MFL-DL with LED dancing lights, MFL-RM with LED blinking colourful balls, The MFL-G that has steady gold fiber optic with colourful LEDs, and the MFL-SS which has LED stars with 8 different motions. With this type of Christmas tree, you don’t need to put on any Christmas lights and unlike the conventional tress, it does not heat up. Energy efficiency is another benefit of using this tree since LEDs only consumes 1/3 energy. This will add up to big savings on your electricity bill by the time the holiday season is over.

# 4: Do not overload electrical outlets.

Overloaded electrical outlets and faulty wires are a common cause of holiday fires. Avoid overloading outlets and only plug one high-wattage appliance into each outlet. Read the power consumption of your appliance and make sure it is within the capacity of your outlet.

# 5: Outdoor Christmas lights and decorations should be pluggedgfci with cover into circuits protected by Meiji Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GF-250/ MGF 250).

These are protective outlets designed to shut off an electric circuit when it detects current imbalance due to ground faults or grounded wires. Pair it up with the Meiji Weather Proof Cover (MCS-2204) for added protection!

# 6: Always unplug electrical decorations before replacing bulbs or fuses of your Christmas lights to avoid electric shock.

# 7: Make sure that you have a stand-alone Meiji Smoke Detector with Alarm (MSD-01/ MSD-02)

smoke-detector-front-300x265With all the family reunions this Christmas season, your kitchen will surely be busy. Make sure that you have a stand-alone Meiji Smoke Detector with Alarm (MSD-01/ MSD-02) to warn you when it detects smoke; that is typically an indicator of fire.

Caring and providing excellent electrical products for our customers is something we strive to do all year round. On behalf of Meiji Electric, I would like to extend our sincerest thanks for your continued patronage, and wishing you a Joyful plus safe Christmas and a Prosperous as well as electrically secured New Year!

A lot of fires during Christmas season are caused by electrical problems. Christmas decorations, trees and lights are included in these situations, and when they’re on fire, they are more likely to be serious.

Be extra cautious in decorating your home!

Meiji Electric has a complete line of LED Fiber Optic Christmas Trees which are very safe to use. These kinds of Christmas Trees make use of LED lights to prevent heat that may cause fires. It has longer life span than ordinary Christmas lights.

Meiji LED Fiber Optic Christmas Trees are more energy efficient than the ordinary ones. About 80% of the electrical energy is converted to light, while 20% is lost and converted into other forms of energy such as heat. This means, the lesser the heat, the lesser the chance of fire to happen.

Extremely durable

Also, one good quality of the LED lights designed on Meiji Fiber Optic Christmas Trees is their durability. They are extremely durable and built with sturdy components that are highly rugged and can withstand even the roughest conditions.

Be careful where you place extension cords

Set them up not under rugs as walking traffic can weaken the insulation and the wires can overheat, increasing the chances for fire. Be vigilant when placing cords behind or beneath furniture because pinched cords can fray and short. If you have pets, keep them away from cords to avoid entanglement and chewing.

And if you’re thinking where to buy affordable extensions cords with good quality, find great deals with Meiji Electric!

Extension cords of high performance

Meiji offers you extension cords of high performance designed to provide safety and ease especially this holiday season.

The 3-meters Meiji ‘13 Series’ Extension Cords (MES-1300 to 1308), rated at 10 amperes, 2500 watts, and the new Meiji Flying Saucer Strip MES-1400, are good enough to use for your Christmas trees, Christmas lights and other decorations, especially if they have bulky adaptors. They’re made from fire retardant, white plastic material which is a valuable tool in fire prevention.

Lengthy extension cord

Also, the Meiji ‘20 Series’, (WRP-2027 and WRP-2104) with a length of 3 to 5 meters, rated at 15 amperes, 3500 watts, is a 3-Gang Polarized Extension Set, suitable for your Christmas lights and other decorations. They’re available in white, black and green colors and come in 3 to 5-meter range to fulfill your need for a lengthy extension cord.

We know that Christmas trees are good reminders and decors for Christmas. Afterall, Christmas is a season to celebrate, a time to be joyful and creative at the same time. But let us not forget the reason for celebrating this season. The birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior was born to save and serve mankind. May we all accept it with repented hearts.

Merry Christmas Meiji readers!

I can already hear the jingles and the bells as Christmas draws closer day by day! With the once-a-year holiday right around the corner, there is but one thing left to do and that is to get decoratin’!

Can’t quite decide how to go about designing your home this year? Worry no more for Meiji is your sanctuary in finding the best decorations to lighten up your home this Christmas season! There are three things that you cannot miss out on: Fiber Optic trees, Pull-Up Christmas Trees and Christmas Villages! Each one of these decorations are definitely going to make Christmas for you and your family a very merry one!

Fiber Optic Trees

When it comes to tree decorations, fiber optic is the way to go; the benefits to be gained simply cannot be overlooked! If it’s your first time to hear of fiber optic Christmas trees and are curious about it’s good traits, then you are in for a treat!

christmas tree with balls

To sum it up, there are three great benefits that fiber optic trees will give you and these are:

1. Cost Efficiency – Working with a 10-20W fuse (varies upon model) you can expect an electricity bill that will shock you, in a good way! Not only will it give you surprisingly lower bills compared to previous Christmas decorations, it also saves you from having to spend time and money on busted light! With the fiber optic tree you will not have to worry about changing old lights that ruin the overall quality of your decoration. You can use it every year and not have to worry about lacking lights on some parts of your tree.

2. Safety – Questions about the safety of Christmas lights had caused quite the stir globally. The last thing you would want to see lighting up the village on Christmas day is your house on fire! Fiber optic trees do NOT generate extensive heat to get your house on fire. You can rest easy on your living room as you drink your Christmas champagne without  having to worry about your pet cat going ablaze. Of course it is always advisable to keep the adapter far away from the fireplace.

3. Hassle-Free – Fiber optic trees are so easy to assemble it will make you want to go on a quick jog! All you have to do is open its branches and switch it on. Now, when Christmas season is over and you have to go back to work (harsh, I know) simply close the branches and you’re done! Time for another run at the oval!

Personally, our fiber optic tree lasted us 8 years, so if you’re looking for a good investment then you’ve found one!

new christmas lights‘Tis the season to be jolly! No one wants to have to deal with fires, especially in the Christmas season when sadly, homes are more prone to fires due to the various Christmas decorations and other preparations. I encourage everyone to be careful with preparing for the holidays, because as the cliché goes, prevention is better than cure. Here are five simple steps you can take that can save lives and homes:

1. Maintain your lights.

It is normal for families to use the same Christmas lights year after year because they’re only up for a while anyway, and then put away the rest of the year. Thus, it is inevitable that these lights can wear out and we would be unaware of it. Before putting up those colorful, wonderful lights, inspect them first with utmost scrutiny—check for warm wires, worn-out wires, broken sockets, kinking, and any other symptoms of a potential danger. And when the time comes that you have to replace your lights, make sure to purchase lights from a credible, reputable brand. Better yet, get fiber optics.

fiber optic christmas tree with LED balls2. Use non-flammable decorations.

It is pretty much self-explanatory. As much as possible, purchase only fire-retardant decorations. If you are not sure whether a product is fire-retardant, always ask the sales personnel. It is not worth it to assume when it comes to life-or-death issues. This condition also applies to buying the Christmas tree itself, if you are getting an artificial one. On the other hand, if you are getting a real tree, always keep it moist, as dry trees can burn up more easily.

3. Do not block exits and crucial pathways.

While it is indeed very tempting to envelop your home in colorful decorations in the spirit of the holiday season, remember that you have to keep important pathways and exits clear and empty. This is so that in the event that something untoward happens, you will have the proper means to escape your home. In this light, it will also help if you held a fire drill with the people in your home.

4. Do not leave lights and/or burning candles unattended.

Even if your lights are A-Okay, leaving them on for extended periods of time can cause them to wear out easily and become exposed to serious danger. Always turn them off when not in use. If possible, make a schedule wherein the lights and decorations can only be switched on at a certain time. Installing smoke detectors would also be a wise option.

5. Concentrate on your cooking.

This item may not be related to Christmas decorations, but it is still crucial to the holiday season. One can get lost in the preparations for Noche Buena, as there are relatives buzzing with glee in their chit chats, and kids running around all giddy about seeing everyone and receiving their presents. While it is the spirit of the season to reunite with family relatives and/or close friends, keep in mind the brownies in your oven, the spaghetti on your stove, and the dishes that can go wrong if left unattended. Set alarms, have someone remind you, do anything to make sure the food preparations go smoothly.

So there you have it! It really pays to be careful with the little things. A little inspection, a little caution definitely goes a long way. Have a safe holiday season!
