Ever wondered why some plugs have 2 prongs while others have 3? Well, it is all about safety!  Electricity must flow in an uninterrupted circuit. Electrocutions often occur in homes due to defective products, such as appliances, power tools, and improper wiring. Children are particularly susceptible to electrocution not only because of their never ending curiosity but also because they can sense an electrical current as low as 0.006A (6mA). Faulty installations or repairs can also result in electrocution and are a primary cause of electrical accidents at home.

Take a look at your home outlets for instance, the right smaller slot is for the HOT wire, this is where electricity comes from; the left wider slot is for the neutral wire, this wire completes the circuit and feeds the electricity back into the system.

Implement this idea into a larger power distribution system and you’ve created a huge problem. If excess voltage is applied to the circuit, like a lightning for example, all the excess energy must travel through your electrical network, potentially exploding everything connected to it. To prevent this, a third ground wire is connected straight to your breaker enclosure and is driven straight to the earth. Now when a lightning strikes into your system, the excess energy is directed into the land instead, but we have now created another problem. Before all of this, the only way to be shocked is when you touched both the neutral and hot wires, in that case your body would close the electrical circuit and the voltage would travel through you, from one wire to the other. Now, because of grounding, half of the electrical system is always indirectly connected to you, through your feet. Meaning you only need to touch a single wire or a metal object electrified by one to become an unfortunate circuit. This is why some appliances have the third prong. It is a safety feature for devices with metal cases. It protects the items from wear and tear, aging and faulty manufacturing. A hot wire from within the appliance could come loose and make contact with the metallic case, without the 3rd prong, you could be lethally shocked when touching it. Appliances with this third prong have a wire that connects directly from the metallic case and back to the outlet. Voltage along this path would trip the breaker and cut off the electricity that could potentially kill you.

Meiji Items with Grounding

Electrical Safety with Meiji Products

Prevent serious injury or an accident from happening in your home by using Meiji GFCI’s, AVRS (Automatic Voltage Regulator), UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply), Wiring Devices, Extension Sets, and Timers which all have grounding or 3rd prongs.  The whole family of Meiji Electric’s GFCI’s MGU252MGF250GF250 and LG20 are classified as Class A in accordance with UL943. This is because all Meiji Electric GFCI’s have a 6mA sensitivity rating, unlike other GFCIs being sold in the markets which only have 15mA rating or even higher. UL Standard indicates the `let go factor’ of women and children should not be more than 6mA sensitivity rating because anything above this range is where `freezing currents’ start and it may not be possible to `let go.’ The Meiji GFCI is different from conventional receptacles, because in the event of a ground fault, it automatically trips, and stops the flow of electricity to your body, thus preventing serious injury. Meiji GFCI’s will work even without a grounded wire, even if a utility box isn’t grounded, installing a GFCI in it will still protect you (and your tools and appliances) from ground faults. The Electrical Code requires installing a GFCI for all wet areas, this is necessary to avoid ground fault which happens when electricity passes through our wet body before it reaches the ground.

Our newest addition is the MGU252, the only square GFCI with a combination of 1 international outlet and 2 USB outlets. It is designed for ease of use with all USB-dependent gadgets and devices while protecting you in wet prone areas. For your convenience, we will be giving a FREE custom-made 3’’x 3’’ utility box UB-252 so you don’t need to worry on where to get one.

It’s school time again! With the start of school, families face new organization challenges. The kids probably feel excited and maybe a little sad that summer is over, some kids feel nervous or a little scared on their first day of school. Early morning alarm clocks, homework and projects are just some things to expect. Get organized now for the new school year ahead. Use these ideas to prepare your home and family for the busy days ahead.

  1. TCV003 Meiji Aircon to Fan TimerThe first day of school is no time for a drastic adjustment of household sleep schedules. Instead, ease children back into a school year routine gradually. By this time, late sleepers should wake up earlier, closer to the hour they’ll need to rise when school begins. An alternative way to help them wake up is to set your aircon to turn off at an earlier time. Use the Meiji Aircon to Fan Timer TCV003 to automatically set your aircon to turn off at a specific time and your electric fan to turn on immediately after. It allows you to plug-in your air conditioner and electric fan in one unit with its international and universal outlet with 4400W and 20A load capacity. This way your children will wake up earlier and you save energy at the same time.

Meal Times

  1. Don’t neglect meal times! Younger children, in particular, need to adapt to new meal routines before the school day demands it of them. Plan and prepare them fresh fruits and balanced meals to get them energized throughout the day.

School Supplies

  1. School supplies should already be bought by now. Label your entire children’s belongings so it can be returned to them when it gets misplaced.

Meiji UPS

4. Take some time to clean and organize a place for studying. Avoid too much clutter that can make kids feel discouraged to study. Arrange pens, books, calculator and computer. Make sure to connect the computer to the Meiji UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). A UPS is a device used specifically computers as back-up power whenever there is a power outage or brown-out. That way you can save your data before shutting down the computer. This is a very good investment for children who work with their computers for their research and projects. With the Meiji UPS, you don’t need to worry when a brown-out occurs, because all the kid’s homework can still be saved.

  1. Encourage your child to eat and dress by themselves so they can manage things like taking raincoats on and off at school. Through independence, children get to enhance their skills, develop their personality and make decisions.

Limit Distractions

  1. MES 1404Limit distractions while studying. Detach kids from their cellphone, tablets and other electronic gadgets.Set a schedule on when they can resume using them. Try placing it out of their reach or place them in a charging station. The MEIJI QUAD EXTENSION SET MES-1404 will be useful since it has 4 international outlets and 4 USB outlets. With its Quad shape, you can utilize all outlets at the same time without the adaptors and cords being tangled up. You can charge up to 8 different gadgets simultaneously.

Filipino homes are filled with various appliances, from large mainstays like refrigerators and washing machines to smaller tools like toaster ovens and hair dryers. These appliances often prove vital for day-to-day activities, and can be expensive to replace if damaged or destroyed. For this reason, you’ll want to learn how to protect household appliances from electrical disturbances such as voltage fluctuations and overload.

  1. Meiji Voltage ProtectorC360_2015-05-13-12-01-05-902

The quickest and least expensive solution for protecting appliances is plugging them into Meiji Voltage Protector. These voltage protecting devices designed to turn-off in the event of a voltage fluctuation, cutting off power to your appliances and protecting them.

Note that not all voltage protecting devices have the same feature and capacity. Meiji Voltage Protector has the capacity of 4400 watts in a 220V output. Meiji Voltage Protector also has a “power-on-delay of 2 minutes” which can help prevent inrush current that might damage your appliances.

  1. Meiji AVRC360_2015-05-13-11-48-45-898

Partner AVRs with your appliances. A more thorough and robust solution than using voltage protecting device is to use Meiji Servo-motor type AVRs for regulating the voltage even while your appliance is running. Because this type of surge protection works during a voltage spike, it avoids the appliance plugged-in to be affected by the spike. It offers greater protection for your appliances than individual power strips.

Whole-house surge protectors are usually designed to accept 240 volts, which means you’ll need 2 empty and adjacent 120-volt spaces in your panel to install this device.

  1. Meiji Extension CordC360_2015-05-13-11-54-53-257

Meiji Extension Cords are rated at 10A and are made from fire retardant plastic material.

This can be a good solution if you are dealing with many appliances but you lack wall outlets or you need power supply near your working area, just be sure that you would plug-in these extension cords to an appropriate AVR. Meiji Extension Cords have built-in fuse protection in case of an overload. Each outlet has its own individual switch. So when you are done using one outlet, you can turn off the switch to save on power.

  1. Meiji GFCIC360_2015-05-13-12-08-58-574

In many countries, especially here in the Philippines, GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlets are required in kitchens and bathrooms, and other wet areas. These outlets monitor the electricity flowing into and out of each socket and shut off the flow if the difference exceeds a certain amount.

Install Meiji GFCI outlets throughout your home. These outlets help protect against “ground faults” – when electricity flows out of an appliance’s wiring and into the ground through the nearest conductor. If this conductor happens to be a person, severe injury or death can result. Meiji GFCI outlets are rated 20A with sensitivity rating of 6mA.

Updating your existing outlets with GFCI outlets (especially in wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms) is a quick way to add additional protection against electrical problems with your appliances.

Generally, an Uninterruptable Power Supply(UPS) is a power protection device that will supply a limited amount of power for a limited amount of time when there is no power supply.A UPS will let you continue to work for a short time and allow you to safely close any open documents, thus allowing you time to properly shutdown the computer. A UPS will protect your computer and electronics from a variety of power related problems

It has a number of functions, designed to protect almost all electronic devices, especially our desktops.

If you have seen flickering lights in your home or office, computer freezing up or restarting, then you may be suffering from a power supply problem.

What some of us do not realize is that the power provided to our home or office is at times irregular and not necessarily a continuous 220volts supply. The ideal voltage supply in our country is 220. However, even in residential areas, this can often be over 260volts or under 200volts. It can get even worse in industrial areas if you live near or work in these zones due to machineries being used.

Meiji UPS can sense whether voltage is within tolerance, and will automatically go to battery power until normal power returns. With capacities of 500 watts or 1000 watts, desktops and any other devices within the limit can be protected.

meiji ups

The primary advantage of using Meiji UPS is that in cases of sudden power loss,it will continue to power the computer system long enough for you to save your work. Additionally, in environments which have problems with “dirty”, meaning the electrical supply may have sudden spikes or dips, Meiji UPS offers a great deal more protection than a standard surge suppressor would.

Additional back-up time and run time control during power failure are some of the many advantages for you in order to accomplish the necessary tasks to be completed immediately.

Electricity has become a life line of our everyday living. Without electricity, our computers would cease to work. And in our time and age today, most of us depend heavily upon our computers for work and entertainment, thus a UPS can be a life saver when the power goes out.

So invest now on Meiji UPS. Remember protective devices are investments not a liability.

you-were-a-college-student-in-the-2000s-if-979286879-sep-13-2012-1-600x400Dreaming about the future of your daughter, and seeing her doing her best on her studies, you can’t help yourself from being proud of her. You know she needs your support and provision as she makes her way to success.

No Good Life

But what you didn’t realize, when she was just making her thesis, a sudden storm hit your home system and knocked the power down! Due to the sudden shutdown, your computer got internal destruction. Files got corrupted and they didn’t get saved. Because you didn’t invest in Meiji UPS which is very necessary for computers, your daughter wasn’t able to finish her thesis, she didn’t submit any paper, and she got no honors and awards because she didn’t graduate. She didn’t get employed, no work at all, no earnings, no investments, no vacation house, no relaxation and no good life.

Everything you dreamed for her melted down like an ice cube liquefied under the sun.

Don’t let this happen! Invest now in Meiji’s Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS)!

With Meiji UPS, your computer work is safer because it has backup power during electricity failure. Meiji UPS comes with 500 and 1000 power wattage. It has an input voltage of 220V-240V, 60Hertz and battery specification of 12V/7.0Ah, 1 piece for 500 watts and 2 pieces for 1000 watts. It gives you a 15 to 30 minute backup power where your computer can be easily shut down after saving your work. The best part is, you can resume your work once the power outage is fixed. Isn’t that just great!

Make your dreams come true with Meiji UPS!

A person in a dark room with his palm in his face…

No… it’s not a scene in a horror or drama film but a typical scenario of a person who experienced a power outage while doing an extensive report in his computer without saving.

Exhausted, annoyed and irritated. These three words may shortly describe the way we feel. But cannot completely justify the feelings this horrific experience can cause. Maybe most of us have experienced this. And it can be a real hassle.  Imagine doing something for 5 hours, and then GONE! This was what happened to me. Heartbreaking!

But there is no reason for you and I to experience this anymore. With Meiji’s Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), you can finish all your work without any worry of data loss. Meiji UPS provides us with a 15-30minute backup power during power failure. This also depends on the load plugged into the Meiji UPS.  It’s like having a spare battery for your PC. UPS not only gives us more time to save our files but also to properly shutdown our computers to avoid damages to our internal hard drives. If you are still not convince of its necessity in our computer, I’ll show you why you should be!

Here are 3 reasons why having a UPS is important:

one of the most sensitive appliances we own is our personal computer. PCs are built with electronics and micro chips that can be very reactive to electrical surges. And as we had mentioned in our articles, one sure way to have an electrical surge would be a power outage. You wouldn’t want to keep buying a PC or having it repaired, do you?

Again by using Meiji UPS, there will be no reason for you to redo your work when power loss occurs. It beeps when power is out which alarms you to save your work immediately. Continuous beeping also sends its user the message that the Meiji UPS is low in battery

If you want a long-term investment, Meiji UPS is the one for you. It not just protects your computer from surges, but also has a built-in AVR that prevents surge from damaging the computer connected to the UPS. For the price of one, you can reap the benefit of two!meiji ups

Say no more to wasted time. Bid good bye to redoing hard work! It is better to be ready than sorry! Invest on something that will surely benefit you. With Meiji Uninterruptible Power Supply, work efficiency and security is ensured.  🙂

meiji upsUPS or Uninterruptible Power Supply can be usually found connected to our PCs for back-up battery. This way, when a sudden power outage occurs, you don’t need to worry about the tasks you’re doing  especially the important document/s you are typing because your UPS gives you the luxury of time to save all data. Then after, to turn off your computer properly.

Meiji UPS comes with 2 wattage 500 and 1000VA. So desktop computers with higher specs and requirements can also make use of (the new addition), Meiji UPS 1000W and say bye bye to the dreadful data losses brown-out days bring.

Meiji UPS 500 and 1000VA have an input voltage of 220V-240V, 60Hertz (+/- 10%). It has an 8 hour float charging time. This means, you initially have to charge your UPS first by simply plugging it into an outlet before you can use it.  It’s battery specification is at 12V/7.0Ah 1 piece for 500VA and 2 pieces for 1000VA.

Voltage Stabilizer

Meiji UPS also have built-in voltage stabilizer for both 500 and 1000va so if you don’t have a separate AVR yet, then your UPS will temporarily do. Once under or over voltage occurs, Meiji UPS will give off a warning beep to inform the user of the occurrence. Because of this, your Meiji UPS will then automatically switch to using its battery so that your appliances are well-protected. But this will eat up your battery power so save up your data as soon as possible and turn off your computer.

UPS are meant to save you the hassle of re-typing everything you lost due to sudden power outages, surges or any accidents. With weather typhoons suddenly coming our way such Labuyo, Maring Nando,  you won’t regret protecting your data and personal computers by getting Meiji UPS.

uninterruptible power supplyUninterruptible power supply or uninterruptible power source (UPS) serves as a temporary “battery when the main power source is interrupted or cut off.

It protects users from losing important data especially documents that are still being worked on.

UPS also helps users to save and properly shut-off computers  even after power supply has been disrupted.

As good as it sounds, we still have to be smart consumers in choosing the best UPS in the market.

Let’s discuss to you the different types of UPS and from there, be the one to choose which qualities you want your UPS to have.

  • Standby

This is the most common type of UPS found in our homes. It is the one where our personal computers are plugged-in. As its description connotes, the power stands by for a few minutes only. Standby UPS offers the simplest flow of power source. With its high efficiency and convenient size, these types of UPS come in very handy at a relatively low cost.

  • Line Interactive

This type of UPS is used in a larger scope than that of Standby UPS. Line interactive UPS offers additional filtering and provides voltage regulation whenever needed after a down power is experienced. Your Line Interactive UPS offers a built-in AVR with it.

  • Standby-Ferro

Moving on, Standby –Ferro UPS is the type that offers high satisfaction on filtering and reliability when it comes to power interruptions. However, when coupled with generators or the modern computer load, it becomes unstable.

  • Double Conversion Online

A more advanced type of UPS is the double conversion online UPS. This type of UPS has its two components working together however, producing an inefficient result. Because of the heat generated when this UPS works, it can immediately affect the life span of the UPS, as well as the ones that are plugged into it.

  • Delta Conversion Online

When talking about large loads of power, this type of UPS is the best choice. It works just like the Double Conversion Online UPS but differs on the effect it causes itself and the ones plugged into it. Energy losses are also eliminated with this type of UPS.

No single type of UPS is meant to address the different needs when a disruption on power supply is experienced. It also differs on the type of users it will serve. Remember to pick the one that best suits your need.

Have you ever experienced a sudden brown out while you were doing a final paper for school? That would’ve been okay and even understandable, since you cannot control the electricity in the community. But if you haven’t saved your 45 page document that you have been writing for over 6 hours now, that would be a problem. It can be a real hassle to experience a sudden loss of power on your computer at the wrong time. If you don’t want to lose any more information accidentally on your computer due to power cuts, there is a way to avoid these situations.

An Uninterrupted Power Supply or UPS is a device used specifically for computers as a back-up for battery or power whenever there is a power outage. For those who are work with their computers most of the time, or even for those who have several important documents in their computer, this device is a highly recommended product to invest on.  Let me tell you why.

1. Reliable power.

As long as your UPS battery is still alive and while it  is connected to your computer, you can attach the UPS plug to an outlet and it will maintain its charge at all times. If a power cut happens, it will automatically turn to its battery power, keeping your computer on for as long as the battery could last. Of course, it’s not recommended to finish the UPS battery either, but it will allow you to buy time to finish/save the data you need before it shuts off.

help2. Allows you time.

You won’t have to worry about losing important documents anymore. Because your computer still runs on its battery, you still have ample time to save your documents or transfer it to a laptop for further use. Data can’t always be retrieved once a computer shuts down accidentally. By using a UPS, you can protect your work at all times. Most of us keep important documents in our personal computers, so it is definitely wise to use a UPS for easier access to these documents.

3. Propershut down.

If a computer shuts down abruptly, it could end up rebooting. If this occurs often, it could end up damaging the hard drive, causing even more problems for you. Not to mention unnecessary and inefficient expenses.

4. Cost Efficiency.

If you have to buy a new computer every so often because of the sudden power outages that cause rebooting and endangering the hard drive, that would even be a bigger expense than buying a UPS for your computer WITHOUT the headache and hassle.

5. Protection from surges.

Meiji UPS also comes with surge protection. In  case of surges, your UPS will regulate the output. Meiji UPS has a built-in AVR specifically for this function. As a result, it prevents the spike or surge from damaging the computer connected to the UPS.
