GF250 in Bellevue resort, Bohol

As seen in the photo, all the bathrooms at Bellevue Resort have a Meiji GF250 Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) installed. This is for total safety against ground fault current when you are in contact with an electrical item while you are wet inside the bathroom.  Meiji GF250 can detect as low as 0.006 amperes (6 milliamperes) of ground fault current and stops the flow of electricity immediately.

Unplanned power outages or brownouts are most likely to happen in the Philippines especially at times when typhoon hits our country. And because of this, a lot of unwanted damages may happen to your home, including your appliances, gadgets and even your family. Rain and thunderstorms sometimes make brownouts unavoidable. To minimize inconvenience, discomfort and danger, prepare ahead for the possibility of severe weather.

Here are some tips on what you should do:

  • CEmergency Preparedness "ready to go" kit.reate an emergency kit with a battery-powered radio, battery-powered clock, flashlights, candles, extra batteries, matches, a first-aid kit, a fire extinguisher if possible, bottled water and non-perishable food. Remember that flashlights are safer to use than candles.
  • Use  Voltage Protectors to safeguard your important electrical devices and appliances.
  • Avoid opening your refrigerator or freezer during a power outage. It is safe to have Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs) associated with your equipment as power outages and continuations are unexpected.
  • unplugIf someone in your family needs electronic medical equipment make sure you have an alternative power supply before the typhoon hits. Generator plus a Transfer Switch are very useful and convenient especially at times like these. If you don’t have yet, make sure to acquire one, particularly Contactor-type Transfer Switch (CTS) as soon as possible for future preparation.
  • Unplug appliances with sophisticated electronics such as DVD and Blu Ray players, televisions, computers and microwave ovens so they aren’t damaged by a surge when the power comes back.
  • Leave one light on so you’ll know when power is restored, and then gradually reconnect your remaining appliances to avoid overloading the circuits.
  • downloadAfter the typhoon, replace used batteries in your emergency kit and re-stock food and water to be prepared for the next typhoon.

Meiji Electric carries an efficient and effective line of Voltage Protectors

Meiji Electric carries an efficient and effective line of Voltage Protectors like the general use TC-V001, or the one that has eight programmable timer options TC-V002, and the aircon to fan timer TC-V003. Also, the company has a complete line of Servo-type AVRs with wattage ratings from 500 to 10,000 watts. And for the Transfer Switch, Meiji Electric offers you Manual Transfer Switches (MTS) from 1 ampere up to 63 amperes, and the innovative Contactor-type Transfer Switch (CTS) starting from as low as 100 up to 1200 ampere ratings. All of these devices are reliable, of high quality and will definitely provide safety and convenience to your home.

Key Takeaway

Following the above-mentioned tips will make it easier to cope with power outages or brownouts during typhoons. Always be reminded to acquire protective devices only from a trusted supplier. Think ahead and be prepared for an emergency by having a plan for your home. At the end of the day, you wouldn’t want to risk the lives of the ones you treasured the most.

As we have been suggesting before, the use automatic of transfer switches (ATS) is very beneficial. After experiencing a long period of power outage, we now realize the importance of having a continuous supply of electricity, especially those who have deadlines to keep.

ATS for Home and for Office

imageedit_2_2169072452It’s a great benefit for us to have an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) at home and office. ATS gives us an easy and convenient access to utilize energy from gen set when normal power goes out. An ATS forms the border between the gen set, utility power and the consuming electrical equipment. It performs three functions:

  1. It monitors power sources for failure.
  2. It transfers load from the normal power source (MERALCO) to another (gen set).
  3. It can and should be used to exercise the gen set.

2 Types Transfer Switches

There are two types of automatic transfer switches, namely, circuit breaker and contactor. The circuit breaker type has two interlocked circuit breakers, so only one breaker can be closed any time. On the other hand, the contactor type is a simpler design that is electrically operated and mechanically held. It operates faster than circuit breaker transfer switches, which reduces transfer time.

ATS provides several control functions for gen set operation. It senses when voltage on the utility falls below predetermined limits. Then initiates gen set start-up. ATS transfers loads to the gen set when the engine has sufficiently warmed up and the generator has reached operating voltage and frequency. It also returns the load to the utility line when utility power is restored.

The ATS also provides a timer so the engine runs long enough to warm up fully. It also times a cool down period when the engine has been under load. These controls can be either adjusted by the operator or fully pre-set at the factory.

Meiji ATS units and components meet safety standards and the National Electric Code (NEC) standards. Meiji ATS provides safety to the gen set, gen set operator and protects the electrical service and the utility.

With ATS, a continuous energy supply is acquired even during brownouts. No task or any other activity is interrupted. Invest now on Meiji ATS! After all, we don’t want to get stuck in the dark doing nothing.
